The Yamaha SLG guitar runs on a nine volt transitor radio battery. All in all this is just a fabulous instrument. It's perfect if you live in a house where other people are bothered by your guitar habit, because a few feet away another person won't even hear it, while you are personally enjoying big fat gorgeous tone at adequate volume. I just love the action on this guitar, and I love its size and its tone through headphones or through an amp.
I bought it with low expectations, but immediately began to appreciate its many virtues. The glossy neck is somewhat less wide than a standard classical guitar, and the factory action is intentionally set low; Yamaha says these features are for play-ability. Many jazz musicians use the nylon version of the Silent Guitar in live gigs for these very reasons, it has the mellow jazz sound and the fret board--which is still wider than that of an electric guitar--facilitates jazz finger-picking.
The Silent Guitar uses the same standard nylon strings as other classical guitars and is restrung about as often. The sound is, well, simply wonderful. You can use your own amplification equipment and string selections to alter the sound any way you like, thanks to the standard integrated 1/4 jack. It's my favorite guitar out of the half dozen I own. Please Note : This guitar has been used practically only in my room, but has some minor scratches (see photos) the soft case is in perfect condition and comes with the instruction manual.
